ok i have a standard xbox and i need to know what kinda of mods i need to do the crazy paint jobs i always see and what is this xlink thing im alsways see people talking about. i really appreciate all the help given.i have abouslty no clue where to start

you either need a softmod... or a chip
then you need an OS... I recommend XBMC
google xlink and you will find your answer

Also you need to FTP (google search 'How to FTP to XBOX').
I too recommend XBMC as your dashboard (jake called it OS). For your Xbox get it either TSOP flashed, Modchipped or Softmodded, softmods are easily the cheapest routes, but that will limit some applications you may wish to use in future (like the Xbox debug mode and image grabber softwares).
